How to Edit a Piece of Work

After you've created an assessment, you might need to go back and update the details — perhaps you want to rename it, link it to a different unit of work, or adjust your learning objectives.
Mark Mate makes it easy to update your assessments at any time, while keeping any marking you've already done safe.
How to Find and Open the Edit Page
From your Dashboard, click on the class that contains the assessment you'd like to edit. This will take you to your Class Page.
On the class page, find the assessment in your assessment list.
Click the three-dot menu (⋯) on the right-hand side of the assessment row.
From the dropdown menu, click "Edit".
You'll now be on the Edit Assessment page.
Updating the Assessment Details
On the left-hand side, you can update any of the following:
Assessment Name — Change the name to something more descriptive if needed.
Unit of Work (optional) — Link the assessment to a different unit of work, or remove the current one.
Marking Document (optional) — Attach a different marking document, or upload a new one. This helps Mark Mate's AutoMark feature give more accurate feedback when marking.
Editing Learning Objectives
On the right-hand side, you'll see your existing learning objectives displayed as individual cards. Unlike when you first created the assessment, you can now edit each objective directly on the page without opening a separate panel.
To edit an existing objective:
Each objective card shows the objective name, an optional description, and the grading method. Simply click into any field on the card and make your changes.
You can update the objective name at any time.
You can add, edit, or remove the description by clicking the "Add description" or "Remove description" link on the card.
To add a new objective:
Click the "+ Add Objective" button at the top of the objectives section. A new empty card will appear where you can fill in the name, description, and grading method.
To remove an objective:
Click the bin icon on the right-hand side of the objective card.
A note about objectives that already have grades:
If you've already started marking and an objective has grades attached to it, you'll see an amber information message on that card letting you know. In this case:
You can still update the objective name and description.
You cannot change the grading method, rubric, or maximum score — these are locked to protect your existing marks.
If you remove an objective that has grades, Mark Mate will show a warning asking you to confirm. Confirming will permanently delete the grades attached to that objective, so make sure you're certain before proceeding.
Saving Your Changes
Once you've finished making changes, click the "Update Assessment" button at the bottom of the left-hand panel. This button only becomes active once you've made a change, so you won't accidentally save without meaning to.
You'll see a confirmation message, and Mark Mate will take you back to your class page.
If you change your mind, click "Cancel" to go back without saving any changes.
