Understanding the Class Overview

  • 3 min read

Once you've created a class, added students, and set up your assessments, the class page is where everything comes together. It gives you two different ways to view your class, the Markbook, which lists all of your assessments, and the Overview, which shows all of your students' results at a glance in a grid.

Between these two views, you can quickly see how your class is progressing, jump into marking, and manage your assessments.

How to Get to Your Class Page

  1. From your Dashboard, you'll see your classes displayed as cards. Click on the class you'd like to view.

  2. You'll land on your class page. At the top, you'll see the class name and year group, along with tabs to switch between different views.

The Markbook Tab

The Markbook is the first thing you'll see when you open a class. It's split into two sections:

Assessments (main area)

This is a list of all the assessments you've created for this class. For each assessment, you can see:

  • The assessment name — click on it to go straight to the marking page for that piece of work.

  • The unit of work it belongs to (if you've linked one).

  • A status badge showing whether the assessment is Complete (all students have been marked) or Incomplete (some marking is still to do).

  • The date it was created.

On the right-hand side of each assessment row, there's a three-dot menu (⋯) with quick actions:

  • View Results — opens the marking page where you can see and edit grades.

  • Print Labels — generates printable feedback labels for your students.

  • Print Coversheets — opens print settings to create coversheet reports.

  • Edit — takes you to the edit page to update the assessment details or objectives.

  • Delete — permanently removes the assessment (you'll be asked to confirm first).

If you have more than ten assessments, you'll see page controls at the bottom to move between pages.

Students (sidebar)

On the left-hand side, you'll see a list of all the students in your class, sorted alphabetically. Clicking on a student's name opens a quick profile view. There's also a "Manage" button at the top of the list, which takes you to the student management page where you can add or remove students.

The Overview Tab

Click the "Overview" tab at the top of the page to switch to the results grid. This is where you can see all of your students' grades at a glance.

The Overview displays a grid with your students listed down the left-hand side and your assessments running across the top. Each cell in the grid shows how a particular student performed on a particular assessment.

What you'll see in each cell:

  • Coloured circles — each circle represents one of the learning objectives in that assessment. The colour and abbreviation (e.g. "A", "SE", "7") match the grade set level the student was given. If the objective uses points, the circle shows the numeric score instead.

  • A small tick on a circle means written feedback has been provided for that objective.

  • A speech bubble icon means general feedback has been written for that student on that assessment.

  • A dash (—) means the student hasn't been marked for that assessment yet.

This makes it easy to spot patterns — for example, you can quickly see which students are consistently achieving at a high level, which assessments still need marking, or where particular students might need extra support.

Editing grades from the Overview:

You don't need to leave the Overview to update a student's grades. Simply click on any cell in the grid and a panel will open where you can:

  • Write or edit feedback for each learning objective.

  • Select a grade set level (if using a grading rubric).

  • Enter or update a score (if using points).

  • Add general feedback that covers the whole assessment.

Once you've made your changes, click "Save" and the grid will update straight away.

Switching Between Views

You can switch between the Markbook and Overview tabs at any time using the navigation at the top of the page.

Use the Markbook when you want to manage your assessments (create, edit, delete, or print), and use the Overview when you want to review results across the whole class.
