Three Education Companies That Have Experienced Success On Dragons’ Den

It’s not secret that Mark Mate was featured on Dragons’ Den last November. In case you hadn’t heard, our episode is being repeated Sunday May 26th. To celebrate the repeat, we thought we’d take a look at some other education companies that have experienced success in the Den.

Mark Mate

Being on Dragons’ Den was absolutely monumental for us at Mark Mate. Prior to the show even being aired, we’d been featured on the BBC Facebook page – our video has currently got millions of views! The show was really the major launching point of Mark Mate. It brought with it hundreds of enquiries from schools all over the world. Why not take a look and see how we can help reduce your workload?

Landscapes For Learning

Landscapes For Learning is a company born out of tragedy. Founder Craig Hill’s daughter was prone to fits, and one tragic day fell into their fire. Craig heroically pulled her free and undoubtedly saved her life. It was at this moment he realised he’d spent too much time as a teacher, and not enough time with his own children. He began doing odd carpentry jobs for friends and soon realised he had a passion and talent for carpentry. Following this, he began using is experience and knowledge as a teacher to build outside areas for local primary schools to great success. In the Den, Craig secured £50,000 from Peter Jones in exchange for a 30% stake in the company. We wish Craig all the best for the future!

Peter Jones had this to say about Landscapes For Learning:

Getting children outside to continue their learning is vital and is rightly being emphasised in the curriculum. I know my own children would have loved Craig’s products when they were younger and I recognised that, as well as his passion and determination, immediately. I want to help Craig make this type of learning accessible for everyone because ultimately if our children benefit, so do we all.”

Drone Safe Register

The Drone Safe Register’s Drones For Schools programme is a structured and interactive presentation for 7-11 year olds. When DSR founder Mark Boyt stood in front of the Dragons, he had only one outcome in mind. He wanted Peter Jones as an investor, and Peter Jones he got. Following a fantastic presentation, Peter agreed to invest £60,000 in exchange for a 40% stake in the company. The programme looks at a variety of things from GPS to thermal imaging to payloads, cameras and gimbals.

After the episodes aired, DSR reported that Peter Jones was incredibly enthusiastic about his new investment and couldn’t wait to get started on helping DSR expand. At the heart of everything they do, DSR remain committed to some basic guiding principals which are largely focussed around educating the public on the safe use of drone technology.

Have you auditioned for Dragons’ Den? Or has your school used one of these companies to further the learning experiences you offer? If so, we’d love to hear from you in the comments!

positive review Mark Mate has made a huge difference not just to the time it takes to mark a set of books but the much more detailed quality of feedback I am able to give in the same amount of time as marking by hand. My students love reading their individualised feedback... read more
